What to Wear for your Portraits

Family portraits are a timeless way to capture memories and preserve special moments. They can be showcased as wall art, shared with loved ones, and cherished for years to come.

What you wear for your family portrait session is just as important as the memories you're making. It is important for everyone to wear clothes that represent themselves and make them feel comfortale, but sometimes it can be hard putting outfits together.

Here are some tips to help you choose the right outfits for your family portraits.

Coordinate, but don’t exactly match.

You want your family to look cohesive in your portraits, but wearing the same exact outfit can make your photos look a bit outdated and cheesy.

Choose colors and patterns that complement each other and create a harmonious look. You can play around with similar tones or patterns, but make sure to keep the overall look balanced.

Use a Color Wheel for Color Selections.

This can be a helpful tool to coordinate outfits, as it can help you choose colors that complement each other. For example, if you choose yellow as your dominant color, you can pair it with it's complementary color partner, in shades of blue. Using the color wheel can make choosing outfits for your portrait session a breeze and ensure that everyone looks great together.

Avoid bold patterns and logos.

It is important to avoid any clothing with overly bold patterns, intensely bright colors, and busy logos. Sometimes we can make them work, but for the most part, they can be distracting in portraits.

Instead, I recommend that your opt for solid colors or more simple and classic patterns.

Our aim for your session, is for your outfits to complement your family in your portraits, not for them steal the show.
